About ANTAGONiSTIC

ANTAGONiSTIC is the brain garden—or perhaps nail in the coffin?—of independent multimedia journalist and writer Julia Luz Betancourt.

Inspired by the divisive rhetoric Julia encountered as a student activist while in college, ANTAGONiSTIC is a newsletter about power, resistance and not giving up on humanity in the 21st-century. In particular, ANTAGONiSTIC is for people who are fed the F*CK up with systemic injustice and want to build something new.

ANTAGONiSTIC brings you the perspectives of people who refuse to surrender to forces of power. By challenging mainstream narratives that discredit, co-opt or sew division among social movements and the public, ANTAGONiSTIC supports the moral call to disrupt systems in pursuit of a better world.

Julia Luz Betancourt is an independent multimedia journalist and writer telling stories of solutions, accountability and social justice.

Her work has appeared in various media outlets, including YES! Magazine, Truthout, the Latin Times, LA Progressive, GEN-ZiNE, Scheerpost and Z Network. She views ANTAGONiSTIC as one way to tell stories without relying on the media or publishing industries.
